About Us

Picture
Bob and I have been involved with the sport of mushing since the early 1990's when a friend suggested we might try skijoring with our pet Samoyed.  Once we convinced ourselves this was a wise idea, got ourselves some gear and gave it a try, we were hooked and that has led us on a journey that has resulted in the Dashing Kennel here outside Athol, ID.  We have been together for over 25 years.

When not involved with our dogs, we own a small Nursery that is also located on our property called Cedar Mountain Perennials.  This joint venture combines our love of gardening, growing plants, and native plants.

We both love the outdoors and are active hikers and gardeners.  Both of us are  active with the Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society where Bob has served as Treasurer and Jill as Editor of their newsletter.   Bob has also been a long time member of  the Sandpoint Trees Committee, an advisory program for the Sandpoint City Tree Program.  We are both members of the Inland Empire Sled Dog Association where Bob serves as Treasurer and Jill in the past as Newsletter Editor and Secretary.   In addition to her love of the outdoors Jill is an avid photographer and enjoys making amateur videos of her favorite subjects.   Bob may found on the trail as a runner or the road on his bike during the summers.

Bob fell in love with the sport of skijoring from the first moment he tried it.  He has participated in races all around the western region and has been very competitive.  He took first place in the Pacific Northwest Championships Skijoring Class in the 2010/2011 season.  Bob loves the teamwork, the athleticism and the close relationship with his dogs in skijoring.  Bob started skijoring with our Samoyeds but soon became interested in acquiring a team of Alaskan Huskies.  Before long our first alaskan husky joined us from Fairbanks, AK.  Bob has taught classes and given a number of clinics on skijoring over the years.

Jill also started out skijoring but soon became interested in sledding.  She found the sometimes icy trail conditions a bit more challenging than when skiing without dogs and decided a sled was the better way to survive another day!  She started out working with a three dog team of two Samoyeds and one Alaskan Husky.  Jill was devoted to the Samoyed breed and with worked with them in harness for many years.  She built a team of Samoyeds based on a number of working lines including Abakan, Chelestina, Kriskella, and Wolf River.  She acquired her first Siberian Husky from Karen Yeargain of Tumnatki Siberians in 2009.   This Siberian, Cooper, was to work as a training leader with her team of Samoyeds; however that changed when Jill became very enamored with this inquisitive and athletic bitch.  Shortly after another Siberian joined the Team, McGee, and from then on she decided that she wanted to gradually transition to running an all Siberian Husky team and to pursue running in mid distance as well as limited class sprint events.  She now works with a group of 14 Siberian Huskies competing in regional events in the range of 10 to 20 miles.
